5 Favorite Things: August 2022

August is a weird month for me. It’s my birth month and it’s such a transitional time. It starts out as a full fledged summer month and ends with a chill in the air and whispers of fall. And so like the month my list goes from summer fun to I’m so glad summer is done!

EspresSoul Cafe is quickly becoming a staple in our Tucson community! This women-owned coffee truck brings all the good vibes. With a creative menu full of specialty coffees, refreshers, teas, smoothies, and more, there is something for everyone! They take great care to bring you quality, local ingredients, with several vegan options and new creations on the reg. Check them out at their regular spot, Rozet Nursery on 22nd, Thursday - Sunday 9 am - 5 pm, and don’t forget to give them a follow on Instagram for special events and schedule changes.

Timeless Play - timeless-play.com

Timeless Play is such an amazing resource to have! Located at River and Campbell, this is a drop off daycare center where you pay by the hour, up to 4 hours per a day. Prices are super reasonable at $17/hour (with a discount for a second child) and if you become a member you save an extra $3/hour. As someone who doesn’t keep a regular schedule this is perfect! They also offer events like Mom’s night out, CPR training, Parents Play Nights and more! The staff is awesome and the kiddos are sure to have a good time while they’re there! Bonus, they’re opening a second location in Oro Valley this spring!

Everyone’s favorite breakfast spot just got even better! I don’t know what is going on in the rest of the country, but here in Tucson, AZ our local First Watch’s have acquired a liquor license and I don’t know about you but I couldn’t be happier. First Watch is one of those places that’s always consistent and that keeps me coming back time and time again. Everyone likes it enough that everyone can agree on it, the ingredients are fresh and they’re got a great kids menu. Now that I can have a mimosa while wrangling my toddler, my love for the place has grown exponentially.

the End of Summer

That’s it, that’s the thing, summer ending, it’s my favorite. It’s not that I don’t like summer, but I do think it’s overrated. There’s so much stress to go on vacation and have a good time but, life still has to stay on course. I’m also someone who comes from seasonal locations so either summer time is dead and you’re broke, or summer time is so busy you never see the sun #restaurantlife.

To add to it, Tucson is 100+ degrees by noon every day and it just drags on and on.

What I love about August is the feeling of something ending but something new beginning. I love getting all my ducks in a row, putting away the summer things, buying stationary, planning for the holiday months ahead, etc.

By September everyone is in full Fall mode and with the beginning of the school year, it’s always felt like a new beginning. I appreciate this time for what it is, a time to hold your memories close, pack them away safe and prepare for the winter ahead.

Pumpkin Spice Lattes - Starbucks.com or whatever local coffee shop you love!

And to piggy back off that last entry, PUMPKIN SPICE LATTES ARE BACK! August 30th marks the launch of the PSL and admit it, we all couldn’t be happier.

Maybe it’s the seasonality of it, maybe it’s because it really is so good, maybe there’s crack in it, I don’t know. What I do know is I love a good PSL as much as the next basic b*tch and it’s flavored is ever amplified by the crisp breeze of a fall morning.
