5 Favorite Things - May 2022

Every month I’m going to share with you five of my new favorite things! From cosmetics to tv shows and everything in between! I’m always stumbling across something I just can’t stop talking about.

Available at your local Trader Joe’s

I’ve been using this stuff for YEARS. When I was in my early 20’s my skin was a mess. I’d never really taken great care of it or myself at that point and it showed. I washed my face regularly but that was it. I never, EVER, put moisturizer on my face or sunscreen. During that time I had a conversation where someone suggested that by not moisturizing, your skin overcompensates and in turn becomes more oily. I decided it was worth a shot. I’d also recently heard the adage, “if you wouldn’t put it in your body, you shouldn’t put it on your body.” I was on a budget but the quality of the product I was going to smear all over my face was important to me. On a visit to Trader Joe’s I stumbled across this stuff. Paraben free, check! SPF 15, check! Under $10, check!

That was almost 10 years ago and I have been using this stuff as my daytime moisturizer religiously every since. And if you’re wondering if simply adding a moisturizer into my skin routine solved my issue, the answer is yes.

Available at Target.com

I don’t know about you but finding a good pair of shorts is damn near impossible for me. This year I’ve managed to find the perfect pair. These utility-style shorts from Target brand, A New Day, are everything. They come in five different colors and are actually pretty comfortable, plus they’re more professional than a pair of denim shorts but can still be just as casual. They have a high waist rise and are long enough to save my thighs from chaffing but short enough to be flattering. I own them in two of the five colors, but by the time you read this, I’ll probably have all five.

Grab a pair from Uncommon James

I almost exclusively wear Uncommon James jewelry. Each piece of jewelry is 14 karat gold plated brass. This means they look classy AF but are still affordable. I love these earrings with my everyday look. They are simple enough to go with everything but the hexagon shape keeps things interesting.

Try it at your local Wendy’s

Let’s not judge here ok? Coming up with three meals a day is a challenge no one should have to endure every day. When we lived on Cape Cod, Wendy’s was one of a small handful of fast-food restaurants, and one of the only places open until midnight. Here in Tucson, they are few and far between. I was feeling like some spicy chicken nuggets the other day and when asked if I wanted any sauces I replied inquiring if they still carried their Buffalo Ranch, knowing that they indeed had not for quite some time now. To my pleasant surprise they’re currently offering this Ghost Pepper Ranch Sauce, and damn straight I’m going back for more.

Sign up for HBO max here.

Drama. Humor. History. An incredible soundtrack. Brilliant acting. Basketball. I mean what more could you ask for? Even if you aren’t a basketball fan or LA Lakers fan for that matter, this show will entertain you. As a die-hard Celtics fan, I wasn’t exactly smitten with a premise revolving around our mortal enemy but I do love basketball, and who doesn’t love Magic Johnson? What I’ve gotten is so much more. It’s not just the Lakers, it’s really a story of events that helped shaped the NBA into the magical thing it is today. Save it for after playoffs to keep your basketball fix going a little longer. The first season concluded at the beginning of the month, but it’s so good you’ll be glad to power watch it.
